Melange Creations Luxury Linens was born out of the passion and dream of its founder, Mitun (Srabanti) Chakrabarti. Mitun has an inherent knack for design and an appreciation for exquisite fabrics, having grown up in Calcutta, India, which is the intellectual and arts capital of the country. When the opportunity presented itself, Mitun moved to the US and pursued her undergraduate (BBA) and graduate (MBA) degrees that eventually helped her in starting her business single-handedly. Before moving to Vancouver, Canada, Mitun worked in corporate America for 8 years which provided her with the practical business skills required to be a successful entrepreneur.
Melange Creations can be defined as an amalgamation of entrepreneurial spirit, passion for design, and support for sustainability. By using artisanal and natural fabrics to create the unique and luxurious home textile products, Melange Creations contributes to the sustainability of the artisan community that weaves the fabrics and creates the home textile products that we enjoy in our homes.
Having travelled extensively within the US, Canada, India, and Europe, Mitun’s home textile collections and choice of fabrics represent a true mix of contemporary with sophisticated eclectic style. Mitun travels to India frequently to personally source the fabrics that we offer. This level of personal attention has allowed us to offer rare silks such as Eri (Peace Silk), Muga (Golden Silk) and bamboo-silk, all of which are eco-friendly.
Mitun also launched and co-owned Innovative Décor, an interior decoration firm in Vancouver where she applied her innovative design and efficient management skills to deliver successful projects to her clientele. She was also a featured interior design expert on one of Vancouver’s popular TV channels, Channel M.
Since the Melange Creations collection has a wide variety of handloom woven silks and silk-blends, we work with some weaver communities who live and operate in the villages of India. These artisans weave beautiful creations in silk, silk-linen, etc. Their skills are inherited from their forefathers from hundreds of years ago and are preserved exclusively within their community.
